New sports game unveiled

Publisher Deep Silver has just unveiled its first game for Kinect, the snowbound Winter Stars, coming to retail later this year.

The sports compilation features 11 different disciplines: paraskiing, curling, snowmobile, bobsled, downhill skiing, figure skating, biathlon, freeride skiing, snowboard cross, ski flying and short-track. We're not quite sure what ski flying is, but it certainly sounds interesting.

The game is entirely playable with Kinect, so it'll be interesting to see how events like the biathlon handle, considering it combines skiing with shooting.

As well as the usual multiplayer mode, in which each player can tailor the game to their skill level, there's also a single-player story mode, something of a first for a Kinect sports game. Players can also jump into online head-to-head multiplayer, another welcome addition.

If all this sounds like your cup of iced tea, expect to see Winter Stars doing the slalom towards Xbox 360 late this year.
