Dance Central outsells Rock Band 3
There was a time when anyone suggesting a dance game without a controller would have been pulled into the back of a van and dumped in the nearest ditch, but Dance Central has shown it's perfectly possible, creating a cultural and commercial success in the process. Nobody's more pleased with the game's impact than Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos, who spoke of the initial gamble that faced the studio when setting out to develop the game.
Revealing that the company had been developing a dance title since before Kinect's announcement, Rigopulos believes it was an ideal meshing of technology and software:
When we saw the perfect technology for the app that we wanted to make, yes it was a leap of faith, and yes we also felt that it was the right technology coming at the right time for the game that we wanted to create. Suffice it to say, we're really happy that we made that decision.
So happy, in fact, that the largest development team inside Harmonix is working on Dance Central in its various forms, from Dance Central DLC to the already-announced Dance Central 2. Rigopulos also revealed that the game outsold fellow Harmonix music title Rock Band 3, an achievement in itself considering the established Rock Band brand and its multiformat release.
