Says Microsoft, anyway
Last week we reported that strong Kinect sales helped Microsoft post record profit growth in the last quarter, but just how strong were those sales?
While the 8 million Kinect sensors sold only applies to units sold to retailers, not consumers, Microsoft's chief financial officer Peter Klein gave Kinect a rather flattering label in a conference call.
Kinect is the fastest-selling consumer electronics device in history.
The phrase "consumer electronics device" is a catch-all that includes mobile phones, mp3 players, digital cameras, games consoles and more, so for Kinect to have outstripped the multitude of devices in these categories is pretty impressive.
Of course, in order to maintain its speedy sales pace it'll need to start receiving new games, which could yet prove its biggest obstacle.
