Taking fun seriously

Kinect reaches Japan tomorrow, and gaming bible Famitsu has interviewed some of the country's leading luminaries to gauge their opinions on Microsoft's new controller, including Project Draco head Yukio Futatsugi.

Futatsugi previously worked on Sega's classic Panzer Dragoon series, and its spiritual successor is due to reach Kinect in 2011. Players will be communicating with their dragon partners, helping them to learn new abilities through a deepening bond, with an online mode for multiplayer shooting action.

The studio's primary concern is making sure that players won't be too exhausted when playing for long periods of time, and is carefully adjusting stage length and enemy attacks to keep players' energy levels up. Futatsugi says Draco won't be a game where everyone enjoys themselves for short periods of time, but will allow solo players to become absorbed in its world and gameplay.

The game's appeal is best summed up in the succinct words of Futatsugi himself:

Don't you want to be able to actually experience the feeling of communicating with a dragon and riding it into battle? I do.

Project Draco is on the way in 2011.

...Aww...so it really isn't a rail shooter? I'll still keep my eyes on it, though.

It probably is a rail shooter but we'll have to wait and see. It's my second-most wanted Kinect game after Child of Eden. It's like the Dreamcast never died!

Hmmm...Interesting. The idea is very intriguing & exciting but I'm not going to get my hopes up just yet. Though I will say, I am anticipating the day that there is a playable DEMO (Public or Exclusive) and we get our first feedback on the game.
