Man Becomes...Stepladder!
(With Kinect, obviously.)
Jiawen Chen and the team at Microsoft Research in Cambridge, UK, have been playing with the idea of possessing objects. Not buying them, you understand, but taking them over and turning them into living, breathing characters.
Their new software asks the user to place a 3D object in front of the Kinect camera - like a chair, a stepladder, or...a horse - and then builds a quick virtual model of it. Then, the user has to try to stand in a way that resembles the object, before uttering "possess!"
Now, if you don't say that in the creepiest, most wizardly way that you can, there's something wrong with you. It's only natural.
The results of the hack - presented at Siggraph 2012 last week in Los Angeles, are impressive, to say the least.
